Most Christian churches have ceremonies for babies born to families in the church. Ceremonies fall into the categories of baptisms, christenings (which includes baptism), and baby dedications.
Here at PRBC, a baby/child dedication is a ceremony in which Christian parents, and sometimes entire families, make a commitment before the Lord to submit a child to God’s will and to raise the child according to God’s Word and God’s ways. It is an act of acknowledging the life God has blessed the parents with, an act of worship, thanksgiving, dependence, trust, and commitment.
Commonly Asked Questions
1IS DEDICATION THE SAME AS INFANT BAPTISM OR CHRISTENING?
A baby or child dedication is different from infant baptism or christening. While these rites are significant for a variety of faiths, it is the practice of Pilgrim Rest to dedicate children. PRBC believes baptism is for those who have made a personal decision to trust Christ alone for their salvation, once they have the maturity and ability to understand what that means.
2WHEN/WHERE ARE BABY DEDICATIONS PERFORMED?
Baby dedication ceremonies are typically scheduled for the 3rd Sunday of the month and are performed at PRBC at the start of our 10:30 am service.
Off-site dedications or exceptions to the ceremony date are arranged on a case-by-case basis at the discretion and availability of the pastor (or associate minister).

3IS THERE A FEE FOR BABY DEDICATIONS?
No. There is no fee for baby dedications.
4I AM A SINGLE PARENT. MAY I STILL DEDICATE MY CHILD?
Absolutely! Ideally, both parents - even if not married - would commit to the dedication of their child to God. We acknowledge that this is often not possible and that it takes extra effort for a single parent to raise a child. As a church, PRBC is committed to supporting single parents in providing a Christian foundation for their child's upbringing.
5WHO SHOULD WE INVITE TO THE DEDICATION SERVICE?
The dedication of your child is a special time, so we encourage you to invite your family and friends. There is no limit to the number of guests you may invite.
6WHAT SHOULD WE WEAR TO THE CEREMONY?
This is your day, therefore we encourage you to dress a appropriately for the event. Babies should be dressed in what you feel looks cute on them! No specific color required.
7WHO SHOULD I CONTACT WITH ADDITIONAL QUESTIONS?
